Joel LaChance's interest in bicycles began at a young age. Growing up in Detroit, he began to learn the trade as a toolmaker for an auto company. As he became an avid cyclist he fell in love with the most elegant of simple machines.
Joel has been involved with New Haven bike culture for over 30 years, first as a bike racer and owner of the infamous Cycles LaChance bike shop in downtown New Haven, and now as a street vending bicycle repairman. Joel works closely with other bike advocacy groups around New Haven, focusing on improved safety and accommodation in the transportation network.
